Art by John McDonald
The "Won-Ska" Series- 2020
Over twenty years ago, a young student named John McDonald was tasked with creating a mural at the Won-Ska Cultural School in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. It would be the first large-scale piece for the artist, and it would mark the beginning of a successful and prolific career that would soon take John across the country and around the world.
Tragically, several years ago the murals were destroyed and painted over, lost seemingly forever.
In 2020, using archival photographs from the artist's personal collection, John has brought these pieces back from oblivion in this three-part series.
The emotional significance of this creation cannot be adequately expressed, and it is dedicated to all former students and staff of the Won-Ska Cultural School who were there during the time of its creation.
